A question I get a lot is how young is too young to travel with your child. Jordyn's first trip was at 6 weeks on a flight from NY to FL to visit family. Kennedy's 1st flight was at 11 days old. When I was telling friends and family how soon we were traveling with her their question was always "Can a baby fly that young?" Yes a baby can! Each airline has a different age restrictions. American Airlines allows babies as young as 2 days old to fly, JetBlue 3 days, however they do require a doctors note for children under 14 days old. Other airlines start allowing babies to fly at 14 days old and do not require a physicians note. Be sure to double check with the specific airline as rules are always changing. We only flew with Kennedy so soon because we were moving to a different state and a 12hr road trip with a baby nursing on demand can quickly turn into 18hrs or more. Her 1st real trip was at 10 weeks when we traveled to Colombia for 7 days visiting both Cartagena and Medellin. We had an amazing time on this vacation. So really the answer to this question is it's up to your comfort level. At the same time it's always great to learn from others' experiences. We had an Instagram conversation around this question where many parents weighed in about how old their child was on their first trip and their experience. Check it out for insight and it's not too late to add your own comments to help other parents in the future as well. You can leave them below and/or on that Instagram post.
